Most people think that entrepreneurs are geniuses. Every time I’ve thrown around the word saying I was an entrepreneur or heard someone else talking about entrepreneurs, people always seem to think that they are very special. I’m not sure why that is to be honest, because entrepreneurs are not special beings from another planet or born with an extra smart brain. We’re actually the same as non entrepreneurs, the only difference is that we are more apt to take risks and we have a lot of confidence in our ideas (sometimes too much).
I’d like to share a secret with you.
Anybody can be an entrepreneur/business owner.
Can you believe it? Well you should and here’s why.
There are many definitions and beliefs for what the word entrepreneur means. To me an entrepreneur is someone who can look at himself and others and find a need/want that is currently not being met in the world/market. With that information in mind he builds a service or product which meets that need and that is how he makes a living.
Everyday you and I have ideas that could make our lives better, that is half of what being an entrepreneur is. The other half is putting that idea to action and providing it to others. It’s a very simple idea, but not everyone is ready to take action and take risk and that is perfectly fine, however you must know that you are either going to be the employer or employee and if you have bigger plans with your life than the former is better suited for you.
Now I’m not saying to quit your job and jump into the competition right away, all I’m saying is it would be good to at least consider and begin to plan your life before someone else plans it for you (your employer).
I’d also like to mention that you don’t need a life changing idea to be a successful entrepreneur, take me for example, there are probably at least hundreds of thousands of other web design companies out there and I decided to get into that business, it’s not exactly a life changing company, however I do work hard and reap the rewards. It gives me the opportunity to live where I want in the world, work when I want, and do what I want. Tomorrow if I wanted to, I could fly anywhere in the world and i’d still be employed, because I’m my own boss. Can you say the same about yourself?
What I’d recommend to you is to begin building real world skills that people need inside of an industry that you enjoy. You don’t need to go and pay 20 thousand dollars to get a degree, all I’m saying is find an only class for $15 or find someone who knows what you want to learn and follow their lead. It’s much better to learn directly from someone who knows and has what you want, than someone who hasn’t ever applied that knowledge.
If you want to learn more about building real world skills, check out my other article here.
I think I’ve shared enough for today, I don’t want to overload you with information. All I want is for you to begin thinking about what YOU truly want out of life, because nobody else cares and nobody will help you to achieve what you want unless you know, ask for help, and are ready to learn.
Please comment and share, I’d love to hear about your thoughts on becoming an entrepreneur or how you got started.
