The age old question everyone has asked at some point in their lives.
Obviously this is a question that has many answers and each answer is based from opinion so I can’t give you a right answer to this question because there isn’t one. However I’ll be happy to discuss what I believe a life worth living is.
I believe that there is one thing that truly makes the difference between whether you are living a life worth living or not and that is passion.
Passion is what makes your heart beat. When you love something with passion it makes you happy. Finding your passion in life can help you feel alive. It can help you feel like if you died tomorrow you’d be happy because of living that one day submerged in your own passion. Your “joie de vivre“.
Many people in the world today have never found their passion or what’s even more sad is they’ve found it and never had the courage to explore it so instead they believe that their lives will feel fulfilled and happy if they have things. They buy expensive cars, expensive houses, big tvs, etc. Trying to make their blood pump and get that feeling of ecstasy.
Happiness, passion, fulfillment do not come from the outside, nothing and no one will ever be able to give you those feelings because they come from within.
A life worth living is having the courage to pursue the activity, work or skill that you are passionate about.
I’d also like to mention that I’m not telling you to jump off the couch and do something with your life. If watching TV and hanging out all day is what you love to do, then keep going, you’ve already won, you’re happy. Just make sure that one day when you’re on your death bed, you don’t have any regrets.
Now unfortunately in the world we live, not everyone has the opportunity to earn a living doing what they love. That’s a bold, but true fact and no matter how many people say that isn’t true, it won’t change that fact. Don’t feel hopeless yet though. The point of life is not always to earn a living doing what you love, but to do what you love regardless of money. Money is a tool needed to survive. We need money, that’s the world we live in. So spending 4-8 hours a day working to earn enough money to live and then spending your evening and weekends enjoying yourself doing what you’re passionate about. Well that’s a pretty good life.
You can however set yourself up to earn a living doing what you love, it just takes patience, hard work, planning, and time.
Take myself for example, I have a few passions. I am passionate about traveling and learning about new cultures. I am passionate about technology and coding.
A year and a half ago, I was not happy with where I was so I started planning. How the hell am I going to do what I love. I had just started my web development business and was making a few hundred dollars per month and as you know in a richer country there is no way you can live on that type of income so rather than get a day job (which is a great thing to do while growing a business) I decided to move to a small country in the Balkans called Albania.
Living here gave me the opportunity to live for much cheaper and experience life through a new culture allowing me to fuse both my passions together. I found the perfect solution to my problems. Now it took 4 months to save enough money to get a plane ticket to get here and be able to get my own apartment. 1.5 years later after sticking to my plan, I now earn enough to live normally.
I had the patience, motivation, time to follow through and make it happen and luckily for you and everyone. We all have that. Time is literally the thing that we all have the same of so use it wisely.
I would choose struggling for a year to live a full and passionate life any day over doing something I don’t love.
If you should take anything away from this article, take this. Everyone has a choice. You have to make the decision to have a better life and it only comes down to you.
I wish you good luck on the journey to living a life worth living.
